Stars Finish the season well with a 4–1 Win to Secure 9th Place

MATCH REPORT

The Stars ended their league campaign in style with a 4–1 victory over Carmarthen Town at Bush Park, securing a 9th place finish after a game that swung dramatically in the second half.

Despite the final scoreline, the visitors will feel they had opportunities to take control of the match early on, but the Stars showed resilience to stay in the game before taking over after the break.

FIRST HALF

Carmarthen started the game brightly and should have been two or three goals ahead inside the opening 20 minutes. Cameron Clarke was called into action several times, producing a series of important saves to keep the scores level during a difficult spell for the Stars.

The visitors continued to create chances but were unable to make them count, and gradually the Stars began to grow into the game.

Corey Jenkins had the best opportunity for the hosts in the first half, seeing his effort drift wide of the post as Treowen looked to settle into the contest.

Despite Carmarthen’s early dominance, the sides went into the break level, with the Stars knowing they had work to do in the second half.

SECOND HALF

Carmarthen started the second half in similar fashion and came close to taking the lead when Liam Thomas struck the crossbar from close range.

However, that proved to be a turning point.

The Stars began to take control and broke the deadlock on 53 minutes. Christian Davies did superbly to create the opportunity, and Corey Jenkins’ deflected cross found its way into the net to give Treowen the lead.

With momentum now firmly on their side, the Stars pushed forward and doubled their advantage on 72 minutes through Tom Gameson, who finished well to put the hosts in a strong position.

Carmarthen continued to search for a way back into the game, but Cameron Clarke was outstanding, producing three superb saves, including an excellent close-range stop from Liam Thomas.

The points looked secure with three minutes remaining when Christian Davies calmly converted from the penalty spot to make it 3–0.

Carmarthen did pull a goal back late on, with Luke Cummings scoring a superb free kick with one minute of added time remaining. The goal had added significance as it meant the stars dropped back down to 10th place by virtue of goal difference.

However, the Stars responded immediately from the restart. Harvey Selway delivered a perfect cross into the box, and Lewis Green rose well to power home a header and restore the three-goal lead, sealing a 4–1 victory.

SUMMARY

It was a game of two halves, with Carmarthen creating the better chances early on but unable to take them, while the Stars showed their quality and composure after the break. and once the Stars took the lead, they never looked back.

A strong finish to the game ensured Treowen secured a 9th place finish, bringing the league season to a positive close ahead of next week’s cup final.
