Stars Beaten 6–0 by Trefelin as Hosts Close in on Title
MATCH REPORT
Treowen Stars suffered a heavy 6–0 defeat away at league leaders Trefelin, as the hosts took another significant step towards the JD Cymru South title.
The result leaves Trefelin needing just one more win at Newport in their final fixture to be crowned champions, underlining the scale of the challenge facing the Stars against a side in outstanding form.
With Monday’s cup semi-final on the horizon, Treowen made eight changes from the side that faced Ammanford, including the welcome return of Lewis Green following five months away travelling.
First Half
Despite the changes, the Stars made a bright start and could have taken the lead inside the opening two minutes. Green broke down the right and delivered a dangerous cross into the six-yard box, but Tom Gameson’s close-range effort was gathered by the Trefelin goalkeeper.
The opening stages were evenly contested, with both sides moving the ball well, but the game turned after 15 minutes when Trefelin capitalised on some poor defending. Louis Gerrard was allowed too much space down the right, reaching the byline before delivering a cross that Kosta Georgievsky headed home unmarked.

The Stars had little time to recover, and the game quickly slipped away. Just minutes later, a Treowen attack broke down from a corner, and Trefelin countered with devastating effect. Callum Saunders won possession on the halfway line, drove forward unchallenged and finished calmly past Cameron Clarke to double the lead.
Sensing vulnerability, the hosts struck again on 19 minutes. Another poorly defended corner fell kindly for Jasper Jones, who reacted quickest to finish and make it 3–0.
To their credit, the Stars responded well after a difficult spell and looked to get themselves back into the game. Chris Hartland came close, forcing a strong save from Coughlin, as Treowen showed glimpses of quality going forward despite the deficit.
SECOND HALF
Both sides made changes at the break, with Trefelin introducing talisman Luke Bowen , a clear sign that the hosts were not content with their three-goal advantage.
They continued to show their quality and ruthlessness. Seventeen-year-old Jacob Jones added a fourth goal from a corner, capping an impressive individual performance, before Jasper Jones grabbed his second of the afternoon nine minutes later, again from a set piece, to make it 5–0.
Despite the scoreline, the Stars continued to push forward and showed good character in possession. Carter Campbell forced another save from Coughlin, while Tom Gameson was denied on the rebound by some excellent last-ditch defending.
Trefelin, however, remained relentless in their pursuit of further goals and rounded off the scoring in the closing moments. Jordan Vickers broke down the right and delivered an excellent cross to the back post, where Luke Bowen was on hand to head home and complete a convincing victory.
SUMMARY
It was a difficult afternoon for the Stars, but credit must go to Trefelin, who delivered a performance worthy of champions-elect in front of a healthy crowd of just under 500.
The quality, organisation and intensity shown by the hosts highlighted why they sit at the top of the table, while the atmosphere and hospitality at Ynys Park reflected a club that looks more than ready for the step up to the Cymru Premier.
For the stars, attention now turns to Monday’s cup semi-final, where they will look to respond and finish the season strongly.
