Stars edged out in narrow Lido defeat
Treowen Stars 0–1 Afan lido
JD Cymru South
MATCH REPORt
the stars were left frustrated as they fell to a narrow 1–0 defeat against afan lido, despite creating the better chances and dominating large spells of the second half.
FIRST HALF
the opening half was a very even contest, with both sides battling well but lacking the bit of quality needed to open the game up. however, it was the stars who looked the more dangerous going forward and created the clearer opportunities.
the stars should have gone into the break ahead after missing two huge chances to let lido off the hook. despite not creating any chances of note, lido were a threat throughout the half and liam griffiths in particular was making it a difficult night for the stars backline
SECOND HALF
the second half started slow with both sides looking to take advantage in the game and it was afan lido who made the breakthrough early in half, with liam griffiths continuing his strong form by scoring his sixth goal in as many games to put the hosts in front.
from that point on, it was one-way traffic. the stars pushed afan lido back and spent the majority of the half in the visitors half, throwing everything forward in search of an equaliser.
despite the pressure, treowen were unable to find a way through a very resolute lido defence, with the lido goalkeeper in superb form to deny the stars when they did have any glimpse of an opening.
there was late controversy right at the death, as treowen had what looked a stonewall penalty turned down, adding to the frustration of the night.
overall the stars felt they should have taken something from the game but a superb defensive performance from lido got them a very hard fought 3 points
Next up the stars face high flying ammanford at home on saturday
