đź“… Date: 25.04.25
The Stars face Airbus UK Broughton on Saturday in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup Final at Latham Park, our final game of the season.
It’s a North vs South final, with Airbus coming into the game as one of the strongest sides in the country this season and looking to retain the trophy they won last year.
The North Wales side are in good form, having beaten league champions Llandudno 3–1 in their last game, meaning they have won 19 out of their last 20 games. They’ve been strong going forward all season, scoring 119 goals in all competitions.
Their run to the final has been convincing. Wins over Mold Alexandra (3–1), Holywell (2–0) and Newtown (3–1) set them up for a dominant 5–0 win over Afan Lido in the semi-final. Danny Warren has been their main threat in this competition, scoring a goal in every round and the competitions top scorer with four goals.
Airbus also have experience at this stage, having beaten Trefelin 3–2 in last year’s final. With Cymru North sides winning the competition for the last three years, they will be confident of retaining the trophy.
For The Stars, this final comes off the back of a run where they’ve had to work for everything and come through some difficult games.
Away wins at Caerau Ely and Ammanford, both sides who have been fighting for promotion, set the tone early on. The quarter-final against Llantwit was another tough game, and the semi-final at Buckley needed penalties after a late equaliser.
We go into the final after finishing the league season with a strong 4–1 win over Carmarthen Town. It wasn’t straightforward, but once the Stars got on top in the second half, they showed their quality to pick up a morale boosting victory
There are a couple of absences, with Christian Davies and Tom Gameson both suspended, but the squad has shown its depth throughout the season and we have every confidence in the players who are in the squad
The Stars know what they’re up against, but they’ve already shown in this competition that they can compete and find a way. It’s a big test against a top side, but the boys have worked hard to get here and will be ready to give it everything with a trophy on the line.
